Arachitol (vitamin D3) 15 mg injection 6 ampoules

Arachitol 15 mg is an intramuscular injection of Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) manufactured by Abbott. It is a high-dose vitamin D supplement used to correct significant deficiencies quickly and effectively.

1. What is Arachitol (Vitamin D3) used for?
Arachitol is prescribed to treat and prevent vitamin D deficiency. It is typically used in cases where:

Severe Deficiency is Diagnosed: When blood levels of Vitamin D are very low.

Rapid Correction is Needed: A single high-dose injection can raise blood levels much faster than daily oral tablets.

Malabsorption Issues: For patients who cannot absorb vitamin D properly from the gut (e.g., in Crohn's disease, celiac disease, after bariatric surgery).

Non-Adherence to Oral Medication: For patients who are unlikely to take daily or weekly oral supplements consistently.

Specific Medical Conditions: Such as osteoporosis, in conjunction with other medications, to improve bone health.

2. Key Information about the 15 mg / 6 Ampules Pack
Active Ingredient: Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) - 15 mg (which is equivalent to 600,000 International Units (IU)).

Form: Solution for injection in a 2 ml ampule.

Pack: The box contains 6 individual glass ampules.

Dosage: The entire content of a single 2 ml ampule (15 mg/600,000 IU) is one dose. This is a very high dose intended for administration every few months, as directed by a doctor.

Administration: It is given as a deep intramuscular (IM) injection, usually in the buttock or upper arm, by a healthcare professional.

3. How Does it Work?
Vitamin D is crucial for:

Calcium Absorption: It helps your body absorb calcium from the food you eat in the intestines.

Bone Health: It is essential for the formation, growth, and repair of bones. Without sufficient Vitamin D, bones can become thin, brittle, or misshapen.

Muscle Function: It supports muscle strength and function, reducing the risk of falls.

The injection delivers a "depot" or storage dose of Vitamin D into the muscle, which is then released slowly into the bloodstream over several weeks to months.

4. Important Precautions and Warnings
Medical Supervision Only: This is a prescription-only medication. The dose and frequency must be determined by a doctor based on your blood test results.

Overdose Risk: Do not self-administer. Excessive Vitamin D can lead to hypercalcemia (high blood calcium levels), which can cause nausea, vomiting, constipation, kidney stones, and in severe cases, kidney damage.

Contraindications: It should not be used if you have known hypersensitivity to Vitamin D, hypercalcemia (high calcium levels), or severe kidney disease.

Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor if you are taking digoxin (for heart conditions), thiazide diuretics (water pills), or other vitamin D supplements, as interactions can occur.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Use only if clearly prescribed by a doctor who has assessed the benefits and risks.
