What Monobenzone is used for

Monobenzone is a depigmenting agent used in dermatology when a physician decides that extensive vitiligo should be evened out by lightening the remaining pigmented skin. It acts on melanocytes in the treated area, and the effect is permanent. It is not intended for freckles, sun spots, melasma or cosmetic skin lightening.

How to use

Apply the cream exactly as directed by your dermatologist, only to the areas they mark, and nowhere else. Treatment is long and the result develops gradually. Depigmentation may continue after the cream is stopped, so unsupervised use can leave permanent patches.

Apply only to the areas indicated by your doctor.

Wash your hands after each application.

Do not apply to the eyelids, eyes or broken skin.

Protect the treated skin from the sun.

Do not increase the frequency, the amount or the treated area on your own.

Possible side effects

Burning, stinging, itching, redness, dryness and contact dermatitis at the application site are reported. Lightening may spread to normal skin next to the treated area, and in some people no lightening appears at all. Seek medical advice if the reaction is severe or spreads.
