What essential phospholipids are used for

Essential phospholipids are a hepatoprotective group: they are built into the membranes of liver cells and help restore their structure. Physicians prescribe them as part of the treatment of:

• chronic hepatitis and chronic liver disease;
• fatty degeneration of the liver (hepatic steatosis);
• liver cirrhosis as part of complex therapy;
• toxic and medicinal liver damage, including after long courses of hepatotoxic medicines;
• support of liver function during recovery, as determined by the treating physician.

How it is used

The dose and duration of treatment are chosen by the physician individually — usually capsules are taken during meals with a sufficient amount of water. The course and the number of repeat courses depend on the diagnosis and on laboratory results; self-administration and dose changes without a physician are not recommended.

Possible side effects

The medicine is generally well tolerated. In some patients nausea, stomach discomfort, loose stools or an allergic reaction (skin rash) may occur. If any unwanted reaction appears, inform the treating physician.

Important precautions

• Use only as prescribed: the decision to start treatment is made by a physician after examination and laboratory tests.
• Tell the doctor about all medicines in use and about any known allergy to soya or to the components of the capsules.
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding — only as decided by the physician.
• The medicine does not replace treatment of the underlying cause of liver damage (infection, alcohol, metabolic disorders).

Storage

Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C, protected from light and moisture, out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack.
