Tationil is an injectable formulation of glutathione (sodium salt) produced by the Italian pharmaceutical company Teofarma. Each pack contains 10 vials of lyophilized glutathione powder (600 mg each) and 10 ampoules of solvent (water for injections, 4 ml each). The preparation is given intramuscularly or intravenously under medical supervision.
According to the manufacturer's summary of product characteristics, Tationil is indicated in adults for the prevention of nerve damage (neuropathy) associated with chemotherapy with cisplatin or its analogues. Glutathione is a naturally occurring tripeptide (ATC code V03AB32, pharmacotherapeutic group: antidotes) that binds reactive metabolites and helps protect cells from toxic damage.
The powder is reconstituted with the supplied solvent immediately before administration and given intramuscularly or by slow intravenous injection (or added to an infusion), as prescribed by a physician. According to the summary of product characteristics, a typical regimen is 1–2 vials of 600 mg per day; the actual dose and duration are determined by the treating doctor. This product should be used only under medical supervision.
Very rarely, skin rashes may occur, which disappear when the therapy is discontinued. If any unusual reaction appears, seek medical advice promptly.
No special storage precautions are required. Shelf life is 3 years. Store the intact pack in a dry place protected from light; reconstituted solution is intended for immediate use.
