What Tavanic is used for

Levofloxacin acts against a wide range of bacteria and is prescribed for infections of the respiratory tract (pneumonia, acute sinusitis, exacerbations of chronic bronchitis), urinary tract and kidneys, and skin and soft tissues, when caused by susceptible bacteria. It does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu and should be taken only when prescribed by a doctor.

How to use

Take exactly as prescribed — usually one tablet once daily, at the same time each day, with a glass of water, with or without food. The tablet is scored and can be divided. Complete the full prescribed course even if you feel better. Antacids, iron, zinc and sucralfate reduce absorption — take them at least 2 hours before or after the antibiotic. Drink enough fluids during treatment.

Possible side effects

Common: nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness. Important warnings for fluoroquinolones: tendon pain or swelling (especially the Achilles tendon — risk of rupture), numbness or tingling (neuropathy), palpitations (QT prolongation) and pronounced skin sensitivity to sunlight. Stop the medicine and contact your doctor if any of these occur. Allergic reactions require immediate medical help.

Important precautions

Not recommended during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or in children and adolescents under 18. Use with caution in epilepsy, kidney disease, myasthenia gravis, heart rhythm disorders and in elderly patients (higher tendon risk, especially with corticosteroids). Avoid strong sunlight and use sun protection during treatment. Tell your doctor about all medicines you take.

Storage

Store below 25–30°C in the original package, protected from moisture, and out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack.
