Dicorate ER 1g is a prescription-only anticonvulsant and mood stabiliser from India. Each extended-release film-coated tablet contains 1000 mg of divalproex sodium (a compound of sodium valproate and valproic acid). The pack holds 10 strips of 10 tablets — 100 tablets in total — and is manufactured by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., India. Divalproex sodium is used under medical supervision for epilepsy, bipolar disorder and prevention of migraine attacks.
Divalproex sodium belongs to the group of valproate medicines, which act on the central nervous system. Doctors prescribe it for:
The decision to prescribe this medicine, and the choice between valproate medicines, is made by a physician based on the diagnosis, medical history and other treatment already in use.
Divalproex sodium is a prescription medicine. The dose is selected and adjusted individually by the treating physician, and blood tests are used to monitor the medicine during treatment. Extended-release tablets are swallowed whole — they are not crushed, chewed or split, because this changes how the active substance is released. The 1 g strength is a high-dose tablet; the medicine is not started, stopped or re-dosed on one's own: abrupt withdrawal can provoke seizures.
Common effects reported during treatment include nausea, stomach discomfort, tremor, drowsiness, dizziness, changes in body weight, hair thinning and menstrual irregularities. Serious, less common effects include liver injury, inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), changes in blood cell counts, raised ammonia levels with confusion, and severe skin reactions. Any unusual weakness, persistent vomiting, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, bleeding, or worsening drowsiness requires immediate medical attention.
Store below 25-30 °C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture, in the original packaging with the strip inside. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack.
