Minomycin 100 mg is a prescription antibiotic of the tetracycline class containing minocycline hydrochloride. It is used under medical supervision for infections caused by susceptible bacteria; minocycline is also widely prescribed for moderate to severe acne vulgaris. This pack contains 100 capsules (10 blister sheets of 10 capsules) and is manufactured by Pfizer (Japan).
Minocycline inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, which stops the growth of susceptible bacteria. It is prescribed for various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue, and urinary tract infections where the pathogen is susceptible. In dermatology, it is commonly used for moderate to severe acne vulgaris when topical therapy is not sufficient. The choice of antibiotic, dose and duration should be made by a doctor, ideally guided by local resistance patterns.
Take Minomycin exactly as directed by your doctor and follow the leaflet supplied with the package. Swallow the capsules whole with a full glass of water; do not lie down immediately after taking a dose. General prescribing information notes:
The most frequently reported reactions include nausea, loss of appetite, dizziness, headache and increased sensitivity to sunlight. Discoloration of skin, teeth or mucous membranes can occur with long-term use. Contact a doctor if you notice severe headache with visual changes, marked dizziness, signs of an allergic reaction, dark urine, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or severe diarrhea.
Tell your doctor before starting treatment if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding, if you have liver or kidney disease, or if you are taking anticoagulants, retinoids (such as isotretinoin), penicillin antibiotics or other medicines. Tetracyclines are generally not recommended during pregnancy, breastfeeding and in children under 8 years of age because they can affect tooth and bone development. Minocycline can increase sensitivity to ultraviolet light — use sun protection during treatment. This medicine is intended for the individual patient only and must not be shared with another person.
Store below 25°C in the original package, protected from moisture and light, and out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack.
