What Mexidol is used for

In its registered indications Mexidol is used as part of complex therapy for cerebrovascular disorders (including the consequences of strokes and transient ischemic attacks), mild to moderate cognitive impairment of vascular origin, vegetative (autonomic) dysfunction, and anxiety disorders. Its antioxidant action helps protect cells — including neurons — under conditions of oxygen deficiency and stress.

How to use

Take exactly as prescribed. The usual regimen starts at 125–250 mg (1–2 tablets) once or twice daily, with gradual adjustment by the doctor; the maximum daily dose is 800 mg. Courses typically last 2–6 weeks and are completed with a gradual dose reduction rather than abrupt stopping.

Possible side effects

Mexidol is generally well tolerated. Occasionally reported: dry mouth, nausea, drowsiness or, conversely, increased excitability, and allergic reactions. If any unusual reaction occurs, stop taking the medicine and consult your doctor.

Important precautions

Not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding (insufficient data) or in severe liver or kidney impairment. Driving caution is advised until your individual response is known, as drowsiness may occur. Tell your doctor about all medicines you take.

Storage

Store below 25°C in the original package, protected from light and moisture, and out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack.
