3. Dosage form

Lyophilizate for the preparation of a solution for intramuscular administration. Vials of 5 mg and 10 mg.

4. Composition

Active ingredient: A complex of water—soluble polypeptide fractions of the cerebral cortex of cattle (Cortexin) - 5 mg or 10 mg in a vial.

Auxiliary substance: Glycine (stabilizer) — 6 mg or 12 mg, respectively.

5. Pharmacotherapeutic group

A nootropic drug.

6. Pharmacological action

Nootropic, neuroprotective, antioxidant, tissue-specific.

Nootropic: Improves higher brain functions, memory, attention, stress tolerance.

Neuroprotective: Protects neurons from damage, reduces the toxic effect of various substances.

Antioxidant: Reduces the formation of free radicals.

Tissue-specific: Activates metabolism and regenerative processes in the central nervous system.

7. Indications for use

For adults:

Disorders of cerebral circulation, consequences of traumatic brain injuries.

Encephalopathies of various origins.

Asthenia.

Cognitive impairment (deterioration of memory, thinking).

Acute and chronic encephalitis and encephalomyelitis.

Epilepsy (as part of complex therapy).

Disorders of the autonomic nervous system.

Reduced learning ability.

For children (including newborns from the first days of life):

Delayed psychomotor and speech development.

Various forms of cerebral palsy (cerebral palsy).

Impaired memory and thinking.

Reduced learning ability.

Consequences of perinatal damage to the nervous system.

8. Contraindications

Individual intolerance to the drug or glycine.

Pregnancy (due to lack of data).

Breastfeeding period (it is recommended to stop breastfeeding for the duration of treatment).

9. Method of administration and dosage

IMPORTANT: The drug is used only intramuscularly (i.m.).

1. Preparation of the solution:

1-2 ml of one of the solvents is added to the powder bottle:

0.5% solution of novocaine (procaine) — to reduce the pain of the injection (only in the absence of allergies!).

0.9% sodium chloride solution (saline solution).

Water for injection.

The bottle is gently shaken until the powder is completely dissolved. The finished solution should be transparent and free of visible particles.

2. Introduction:

The injection is given once a day.

Adults: at a dose of 10 mg for 10 days.

Children with a body weight of more than 20 kg: at a dose of 10 mg for 10 days.

For children weighing up to 20 kg (including newborns): the dose is calculated at 0.5 mg per 1 kg of body weight for 10 days.

If necessary, the course is repeated after 3-6 months.

10. Side effects

They are rare, possible:

Allergic reactions: urticaria, itching of the skin (especially when using novocaine as a solvent).

Individual hypersensitivity.

11. Special instructions

Do not mix Cortexin with other solutions!

When using novocaine, it is necessary to follow the instructions for its use and take into account contraindications.

If the injection is missed, you do not need to administer a double dose. The next injection is given as usual the next day.

The drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and mechanisms.

12. Interaction

Not studied. It is recommended to use it separately from other medicines.

13. Overdose

Overdose cases have not been described.

14. Storage conditions

Store in a place protected from light at a temperature of 2 to 20 °C. Keep away from children.

Shelf life is 3 years.

The finished solution cannot be stored, it must be used immediately after preparation.
