Meldonium belongs to a group of other drugs for the treatment of heart diseases.
1. Meldonium is a structural analogue of a substance found in every cell of the body – gamma-butyrobetaine. The action of this drug is based on a positive effect on the energy metabolism of the body, as well as light activation of the central nervous system.
During exercise, MELDONIUM-LF resumes the balance between oxygen delivery and consumption in cells, activates their metabolic processes, which require less oxygen consumption to produce energy. Usually, under conditions of increased stress, the body quickly becomes exhausted, but as a result of using the drug MELDONIUM-LF, the body gets used to withstanding the load, using oxygen economically and quickly restoring energy reserves to prepare for new loads.
MELDONIUM-LF, acting as gamma-butyrobetaine, can accelerate the transmission of nerve impulses in the body, which accelerates all reactions, improves the overall metabolism in the body. Therefore, when using the drug MELDONIUM-LF, a tonic effect is felt - memory improves, thinking accelerates, dexterity of movement increases, and the body's resistance to harmful conditions increases.
The drug MELDONIUM-LF is used as part of complex therapy in the following cases:
with physical and psychoemotional overloads, accompanied by a decrease in working capacity;
during the recovery period after cerebrovascular diseases, traumatic brain injury and encephalitis (according to the doctor's recommendations).
The drug MELDONIUM-LF is indicated for use in adults.
If there is no improvement or you feel worse, you should consult a doctor.
2. What you should know before using the drug MELDONIUM-LF
Do not take MELDONIUM-LF if:
You are allergic (hypersensitive) to meldonium or any other components of the drug (listed in section 6 of the leaflet);
You have increased intracranial pressure (with impaired venous outflow, intracranial tumors);
You have severe hepatic and/or renal insufficiency (there is insufficient data on the safety of use);
Are you pregnant or breastfeeding;
You are under 18 years of age (safety of use has not been established).
Special instructions and precautions
Before using the drug MELDONIUM-LF, consult with your doctor, or a pharmacy employee, or a nurse.

Other drugs and the drug MELDONIUM-LF
Tell your doctor or pharmacy employee if you are taking, have recently taken, or may be taking any other medications.
MELDONIUM-LF can be used together with anti-angina, cardiac glycosides and diuretic drugs (promote the formation and excretion of urine from the body).
MELDONIUM-LF can be combined with anticoagulants (delay blood clotting), antiplatelet agents (prevent the formation of blood clots in blood vessels), drugs that eliminate cardiac arrhythmias and other drugs that improve microcirculation (blood circulation in small blood vessels).
MELDONIUM-LF can enhance the effect of drugs containing glyceryl trinitrate, nifedipine, beta-blockers, and other drugs that lower blood pressure and dilate blood vessels.
With the simultaneous use of meldonium with lisinopril, a positive effect of combination therapy is observed.
An additional effect is observed when using meldonium in combination with orotic acid to eliminate damage caused by ischemia / resumption of blood flow.
As a result of the simultaneous use of Sorbifer and meldonium in patients with anemia caused by iron deficiency, the composition of fatty acids in red blood cells improves.
Patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) may be prescribed meldonium in addition to azidothymidine or other drugs for its treatment, since the combined use of these drugs has a positive effect on the treatment of AIDS.
An overdose of meldonium can enhance the toxic effect of cyclophosphamide on the heart.
Carnitine deficiency resulting from the use of D-carnitine (an inactive isomer of meldonium) may enhance the toxic effect of ifosfamide on the heart.
Meldonium has a protective effect against the toxic effects of indinavir on the heart and in the case of efavirenz-induced neurotoxicity.
Do not use this medication together with other medications containing meldonium, as the risk of side effects may increase.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and fertility
Pregnancy
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you are pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, consult your doctor or pharmacy employee before using the drug.
Animal studies are insufficient to assess the effect of the drug on pregnancy, embryo/fetus development, childbirth, and postpartum development.
The potential risk to humans is unknown, so the use of meldonium during pregnancy is contraindicated.
Breastfeeding
It is unknown whether the drug is excreted in human breast milk. It is impossible to exclude the risk for newborns / infants, therefore, the use of the drug during breastfeeding is contraindicated.
Driving vehicles and working with mechanisms
There is no data on the effect on the ability to drive vehicles and work with mechanisms.
MELDONIUM-LF contains azorubin (E 122), ponceau 4R (E 124), which can cause allergic reactions.
3. Application of the drug MELDONIUM-LF
Always take the drug in full accordance with the leaflet or with the recommendations of your doctor, pharmacy employee, or nurse. If in doubt, consult your doctor, or a pharmacy employee, or a nurse.
Dosage regimen
The daily dose for adults is 500 mg (2 capsules). The entire dose can be taken either in the morning in one dose, or divided into 2 doses (1 capsule each).
The duration of the course of therapy is determined by the doctor.
Patients with renal and hepatic insufficiency
The dose of meldonium should be reduced.
Elderly patients with insufficient liver and/or kidney function
The dose of meldonium should be reduced.
Use in children and adolescents
There is no data on the safety and efficacy of the drug in children and adolescents (under the age of 18), therefore, this drug is not recommended for use in children and adolescents.
Method of application
For oral administration.
Due to the possible stimulating effect, the drug is recommended to be taken in the morning.
If you have taken the drug MELDONIUM-LF more than you should have
In case of an overdose of the drug, contact your doctor, pharmacy employee, or the emergency department of the nearest hospital immediately. Do not forget to bring the packaging of this drug or this leaflet with you.
In case of low blood pressure, headaches, dizziness, accelerated heart activity (tachycardia), and general weakness are possible.
If you forgot to take MELDONIUM-LF
It is important to take the drug regularly at the same time every day. If you forget to take a dose of the drug, take it as soon as you remember, unless it's time to take the next dose of the drug.
