Arpetol is an antiviral medicine produced by the Belarusian company SOOO “Lekpharm” (Logoysk, Minsk region). Each film-coated tablet contains 100 mg of umifenovir hydrochloride (as the monohydrate). The pack contains 20 tablets. It is a direct-acting systemic antiviral that is also described as an immunomodulatory agent, used for the prevention and treatment of influenza and other acute respiratory viral infections, in the complex therapy of recurrent herpes, and to prevent postoperative infectious complications. In Belarus the medicine is dispensed without a prescription; in the countries where it is registered, use it according to the patient leaflet or the doctor’s prescription.
In adults and children over 3 years of age:
In children from 3 to 18 years additionally: complex therapy of acute intestinal infections of rotavirus origin — the 50 mg strength from 3 years, the 100 mg strength from 6 years.
The medicine is taken orally, before meals. Treatment should start as soon as the first symptoms of influenza or another ARVI appear, preferably no later than 3 days from the onset. If the symptoms, including a high temperature (38 °C or more), persist after three days of treatment, consult a doctor.
Adults — single dose 200 mg (two 100 mg tablets):
Children — single dose 50 mg at 3–6 years, 100 mg at 6–12 years, 200 mg over 12 years; the same regimens as for adults.
The recommended schedule and duration of intake must be followed. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one — take the missed dose as soon as possible and continue the course.
Adverse reactions are rare (may occur in no more than 1 person in 1000): sudden shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or lips, skin rash, itching — symptoms of an allergic reaction. These may appear immediately after the first dose or later. Stop taking the medicine and consult a doctor immediately if they occur.
Store at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C, out of the reach and sight of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the blister and carton.
