What Ingavirin 90 mg is used for

Treatment and prevention of influenza A and B and other acute respiratory viral infections (adenovirus infection, parainfluenza, respiratory syncytial infection) in adults over 18 years. Ingavirin is registered in Russia and in a number of CIS countries; it is not authorised as a medicine in the European Union or the USA.

How to use

Oral, with or without food.

• Treatment of influenza and ARVI: 90 mg (1 capsule) once a day. Treatment should start as early as possible, preferably within the first 2 days of illness; course 5–7 days depending on the severity of the condition.
• Prevention after contact with a sick person: 90 mg (1 capsule) once a day for 7 days.
• Do not take a double dose if a dose has been missed.
• Not to be used in children and adolescents under 18 years — the 90 mg capsule is an adult dosage.

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this product can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Allergic reactions may occur rarely (in fewer than 1 person in 1000). If any adverse reaction occurs, consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Important precautions

• Do not use if you are allergic to imidazolylethanamide pentanedioic acid or to any of the excipients. The capsules contain lactose monohydrate, potato starch, colloidal silicon dioxide and magnesium stearate; the shell contains gelatin and the dyes E171, E122, E124 and E104.
• Contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Contraindicated in children and adolescents under 18 years.
• Contains lactose monohydrate — if you have an intolerance to some sugars, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
• Concomitant use with other antiviral medicines is not recommended; data on interactions with other medicines are not available.
• The medicine has no sedative effect and, according to the patient leaflet, may be used by people whose work requires increased attention and coordination.

Storage

Store in the original carton, protected from light and moisture, at a temperature not above 25 °C. Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the carton.
